Fraction to Decimal Converter

Convert fractions, mixed numbers, and finite decimals into a clean value for the next measurement.

Fractions, without the head scratch

Turn the measurement into a number you can use.

Enter a fraction, mixed number, or finite decimal. Everything is calculated locally in this browser.

Try 3/8, 2 1/4, -2 1/4, or 0.375.

Conventions

Exact where it can be; explicit where it cannot.

Fractions are reduced and negative mixed numbers mean the whole value is negative. Spaces around a slash are fine; other ambiguous forms are rejected. Decimals use up to 18 input digits and must be finite—no scientific notation. Outputs show up to 12 decimal places by truncation; an ellipsis means more exact digits continue. Workshop fractions are the nearest 1/64, not a claim that your material is exact to that increment.

A couple of useful details

Make the measurement easier to use.

Enter a fraction, mixed number, or finite decimal to see its normalized form, decimal, percentage, and a practical workshop fraction where useful.

Example

2 1/4 = 2.25.

Worth knowing

Finite decimals use up to 18 input digits. Workshop fractions are nearest 1/64, not a claim that a material is exact to that increment.

Why does a repeating decimal get rounded?

The display shows up to 12 decimal places by truncation; an ellipsis means more exact digits continue.
